Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States of America. Your young reader will love learning all about the life of this great president, from his birth and early childhood to the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, and everything in-between.
Abraham Lincoln was one of the most important presidents in the history of the United States. That does not mean that everything about him and his term is a beautiful story, but it is history.
This children’s book starts by pointing out that we celebrate the birth of Abraham Lincoln in February every year and then it goes straight into the early life of Abraham Lincoln. It goes on to tell how Abraham did not possess a formal education in his early years but that did not stop him. He later went on to become a lawyer and eventually the President of the United States.
The book does not shy away from the fact that President Lincoln was involved in the Civil War and that there were many people who opposed his ideas about slavery. In fact, unlike many children’s book about Lincoln, this one also does not shy away from the fact that slavery existed and was a part of many people’s lives. It also talks about the Civil War and the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. I found this to be refreshing as very few books about Lincoln that I have read for younger children usually talk openly about these topics.
I would recommend this book to families everywhere. I would give this book five out of five stars for it’s upfront and honest writing as well as for the beautiful illustrations. I received a copy of this book from WorthyKids for the sole purpose of providing an honest review.
